Phlox (/ˈflɒks/; Greek “flame"; plural "phlox" or "phloxes":

A perennial flower that’s a nod to something in nature that lasts for more than one season. A plant of intense color, literally: flame

Phlox is a philosophy in addition to a retail experience. We’re making the case that it’s time to turn our back on ‘fast’ fashion and return to a more intentional and sensual way of shopping and clothing ourselves. We believe that buying what’s “you” and investing in pieces for the long run is the real key to responsible fashion.

This intentional way of shopping does not need to be boring. We’re making room for beauty, glamour, drama, and dressing up.

We are here to help you shop in this way and to show you pieces that are timeless, gorgeous, and worthy of investment. Our mission is to help you buy pieces you have an emotional connection to that expresses who you are and what you value.

Meet maria

Maria Favata, the Owner of Phlox, was heavily influenced by her very glamorous Sicilian parents and extended family. They taught her to purchase quality pieces that were made to last, not be thrown away in a week or a few months. They had a sensual relationship with their clothes in much the same way as they had a relationship with food and life in general.

This philosophy is the foundation of everything we do at Phlox.

At the beginning of the COVID lockdown Maria had an “aha” moment listening to Li Edelkoort on the Business of Fashion podcast. Li talked about how the pandemic was forcing us to slow down. Maria realized she could show people what her Italian family had taught her about clothing and shopping.

Maria holds a Bachelor’s degree from Manhattan College and an MBA from New York University. She has worked and held leadership positions in a variety of industries including tech and education.
